The state government of Assam has launched a new scheme to remodel the police stations of the state and to ensure the police stations of the state are people-friendly. The scheme has been named MOITRI where MOITRI stands for Mission of Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image.

The mission will provide overall improvement of the police station, re-dedicating the force to the service of people, creating people-friendly environment with a modern scientific human approach.

Under MOITRI, the police stations in state have been categorised into metro, town and rural as they will be restructured and refurbished in two phases. 
In the first phase, 73 police stations have been shortlisted to make them citizen friendly and accordingly an exhaustive plan has been drawn for implementing the system. 
In the second phase, all the remaining police stations would be covered. 
Under MOITRI, Mr Sonowal advised to make the police stations more eco-friendly and asked to deck them up with appropriate landscaping and the trees. 

This redevelopment procedure of the police stations provide several new facilities and it will also upgrade any type of backdated facility and it will use a modern and scientific human approach to make the police stations more helpful to people. This scheme will also ensure that the dedication of the police force is always towards the people of the state.

The important features of this scheme are as follows:-

  • Mission of Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image will focus on improving the physical conditions of various police stations.
  • Subsequently, this scheme will enable citizens to get the benefits of the services easily at their respective police thanas through digitalisation.
  • Under this scheme, govt. will provide basic facilities like Reception and Waiting Lounge facility, video-conference system, separate cells and entrances for women and children, toilets, adequate drinking water and boundary wall, physical infrastructure, internet connectivity and basic tools for cyber crime detection.
  • The primary focus is to make these police stations citizen’s friendly.
  • Under this scheme, govt. will cover total 346 police stations in the upcoming 5 years.
  • However in the first phase of its implementation, govt. will cover 73 thanas with a total outlay of Rs. 125 crore. Under this scheme, govt. will spend approx. Rs. 2 crore at each police station.
  • Accordingly, govt. will transform all the police stations into centers for Public Service Delivery System. Furthermore, this scheme will bridge the gap between Police and the general public.

Under MOITRI Scheme, govt. will categorize the police stations into metro, town and rural as these will be refurbished into 2 phases. Moreover, Police stations will become eco-friendly and also deck these police stations with trees. Furthermore, govt. will also provide training on soft-skills to police personnel to make them citizen-friendly.

MOITRI Scheme will be very helpful to the citizens of Assam and they are also very enthusiastic about the new scheme. This scheme will not only develop the police stations but also it will provide training to the police officials. Overall, this scheme is bound to improve the relationship between the common people and the police force of the state.
