82000 Houses for Poor in 163 Cities under PM Awas Yojana

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has started to see some action as the Government has given its nod to develop about 82000 homes under the scheme. The government has finally approved the construction of about 82K homes for poor in urban areas of 163 cities in 7 different states.

The houses in these cities will be constructed for the economically weaker section (EWS) of the society under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

According to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, about 4000 crore rupees will be required to construct these much of homes. The central government will provide an assistance of Rs. 1226 crore rupees under PM Awas Yojana (Urban).

The homes will be developed in the following 7 states:
West Bengal – 27830 houses
Telangana – 22817
Bihar – 13315
Mizoram – 8922
Rajasthan – 6052
Jharkhand—2337
Uttarakhand – 484

The houses will be constructed under the two different components of the PM Awas Yojana as mentioned below.

  1. Beneficiary Led Construction: Out of the total, 58456 homes will be constructed by the beneficiaries themselves with the financial assistance from central and state governments.
  2. Affordable Housing in Partnership: Rest of the homes will be constructed under the “Affordable Housing in Partnership” component under which state governments will provide land and the central government will give an assistance of 1.50 lakh rupees to each beneficiary.
 

The number of homes sanctioned under the PM Awas Yojana has now reached to about 5 Lakh which is still nothing compared to a target of 2 Crore homes by 2022.
