Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu on March 8 to inaugurate the pan-India expansion of the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” scheme on the occasion of the International Women’s Day.

An official release on Wednesday said: “Giving a fillip to the government’s initiative to save and educate the girl child, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the pan-India expansion of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme up from the existing 161 districts to 640 districts across the country.”

The Prime Minister will interact with beneficiary mothers and girl children of the programme, the release said, adding that the PM will distribute certificates to the best performing districts under the programme.

The National Nutrition Mission (NNM) will be launched nationwide by the Prime Minister from Jhunjhunu, the release said.

The PM will also launch the NNM-ICDS common application software, it said.

The mission strives to reduce under-nutrition and low birth weight, to bring down anaemia among young children, women and adolescent girls and to reduce the prevalence of stunting among children, the release said.

In order to maintain law and order, the state police department has deployed more than 4,000 personnel in Jhunjhunu.

The total deployment will include 10 companies of the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary, each having 75 personnel.

The PM is scheduled to arrive in Jhunjhunu at 1pm and depart at 2.30pm.

Senior officials of the state government and from Delhi visited the venue to take stock of security arrangement.

Chief minister Vasundhara Raje too visited Jhunjhunu, inspected security arrangements and interacted with people and took their feedback.

Raje was accompanied by cabinet colleagues, including Yunus Khan, Surrendra Pal Singh, Anita Bhadel, state BJP chief Ashok Parnami, state chief secretary NC Goel, state director general of police OP Galhotra among others.

Special events will be organised in schools under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme on Thursday, where discussions will be held on nutrition for school-going girls, with teachers informing them about nutritious supplement, said state minister for education Vasudev Devnani.

The PM’s programme will be telecasted live in schools across the between 1pm and 2.30pm, especially for students of Class 6 to Class 9 and Class 11, he said.

Central government  has launched Beti Bachao Beti Padhao(bbbp) Pan India Expansion at a mega event organized at Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan. At the launch event, PM also awarded 10 districts for their outstanding showcase of effective community engagement, enforcement of PC&PNDT Act and enabling education of the girl child.

PM also emphasizes the need of providing proper nutrition to the children and thus also launched National Nutrition Mission (NNM) for pregnant women.

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme Benefits

The important features and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme Benefits as specified by PM are as follows:-

  • PM Modi stressed that there should be no discrimination on the basis of gender.
  • In addition, people must know the importance of girls access to quality education just like boys.
  • Daughter is not a burden on the family but brings pride and glory for their community, state and to the entire country.
  • People must run Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme in the form of Jan Andolan to make it a huge success.
  • From continuous efforts of central govt., BBBP scheme has changed the attitude and viewpoint of people towards girl child. Accordingly, the ratio of girls to boys (Sex Ratio) across the country is now above 900 (per 1000 boys).

Central govt. has also taken other initiatives for women empowerment like successful implementation of BBBP in 161 districts, 6 months maternity leave for working women, training of women sarpanches, universal implementation of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.

Moreover govt. has set-up 200 Sakhi Centres for violence affected women, shelter homes for widows, forensic lab for speedy forensic processing in case of rape. Furthermore, govt. is also going to bring an historic Bill against trafficking of women & children in this parliament session.

Pan India Expansion of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme

PM Modi has chosen Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan for all India expansion of BBBP Scheme. Rajasthan govt. is providing education to all the girls and is also distributing laptops, scooters and cycles. All these initiatives will encourage parents to send their girl child to education institutions. Moreover, govt. and general public has also taken other initiatives like planting trees at birth of the girl child and appointing girls as their brand ambassadors.

At the mega event of expansion of BBBP Scheme, PM Modi has also given awards to the winners of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Logo Contest and Logo for National Nutrition Mission. Moreover, PM has also released Photo Journey Book to show the innovative and successful initiatives by the districts. PM has also interacted with 200 girls born in Rajasthan after official launch of scheme i.e January 2015. This was a symbolic way to represent that how BBBP Scheme has changed attitude of society towards girls.

Health Management Information System (HMIS) data suggests that there is an improvement in sex ratio at the time of birth. Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) in 2014-15 was 918 which has increased to 926 in 2016-17. These encouraging results are due to active participation of States and districts. Subsequently, Central govt. has decided to go pan India and extend the BBBP programme to all districts. Central govt. has set the total outlay of BBBP scheme to Rs. 1132.5 Crore for duration of 2017-18 to 2019-20.

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme Guidelines – Expansion Strategies

Initially, govt. has launched this scheme in those districts which are either below National Average or were worse in terms of value of CSR. However this problem is critical and much greater in magnitude, so govt. has decided to expand this scheme to the entire country.
