Prime Minister Research Fellowship (Stipend/ Salary) Scheme :-PMRF for Ph.D. Students in India

The new PMRF (Prime Minister Research Fellowship) Scheme was officially approved for implementation and launch by the Central Government Union Cabinet. The new scheme has been approved for students opting for research programs under the Ph.D. The government has provided with provisions for students to directly opt for admission in professional research course with IISC and IIT.

Under this scheme, govt. is going to select 3000 fellows in a period of 3 years. Accordingly, this scheme will realize the vision of “development with innovation”. Each candidate will get financial assistance of Rs. 55,00,000 for their research work.

Candidates can carry forward their research work ingenuously in domains of science and technology. Moreover, this scheme will help in improving the quality of ITI (Industrial Training Institute) across the country.

 

Implementation details

  • The scheme for implementation has been announced by the central government to offer assistance for students for a period of 3 years. The government has stated that within this time frame it shall be making a selection of over 3000 students to benefit under the scheme as apart of the Developmental program.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Accordingly the government has also announced to offer with financial assistance for each student equivalent to Rs 55,00,000 under the scheme under the set budget. The students will be able to use the benefit for carrying out their research work in the fields of technology and science within the IIT sector.

Prime Minister Research Fellowship Scheme – Amount / Salary / Grant

Under PMRF, each fellow will receive financial assistance for 5 years to carry forward their research activities. The amount of research fellowship and other research grants for a single fellow is described as follows:-

Govt. will select 3000 fellows in next 3 years and will spend this amount on each one of them to encourage growth of nation. Every year, govt. will provide additional Rs. 2 lakh per year for foreign travel expenses to present research papers in international conference and seminars.

 

All Features About PM Research Fellowship Scheme

  • For providing the assistance the government will make the selection of best approved candidates from the final year M.Sc / M.Tech or M.Tech Integrated programs.
  • The selection will only be made form the technology and science fields for IIT, NIT, IISER and IISc faculties. The program will be implemented by the HRD (Human Resource Department) of Ministry.
  • The government has also stated that the beneficiary under the scheme will also have to select to teach in any one of the 14000 centers of ITI (Industrial Training Institutes).

Set budget 2018

For better implementation of the scheme the government has allocated a set budget of Rs 1650 crore to be implemented for 2018-19 academic year. The amount will be implemented by the government for a period of next seven years.

The new initiative has been taken by the government to help boost the idea of knowledge transfer in science and engineering colleges. This will also help in promoting the level of education in the ITI centers across the country. This will help in overcoming the shortage of better teaching staff in these centers nation wide.
