Health Minister Launches MAA (Mother’s Absolute Affection )Scheme 2018 in Himachal Pradesh

The state government of Himachal Pradesh has announced to launch the new MAA (Mother’s Absolute Affection) scheme within the state.The scheme is launched to make people aware of the significance and benefits of breastfeeding. Breastfeeding helps in reducing infant and early childhood mortality. The programme will achieve the goal that every child in the state is healthy.

The new scheme has been announced for Lactating mother’ and Pregnant women within the state. As per the sources, state government, under this scheme will try and create awareness amongst the people of the state about the importance of Breast feeding for new born babies.

The state government has decided to run the new drive state wide with an aim to educate the new mothers and general people related to the importance of mother’s milk for the child during first hour and till six months.

Breastfeeding is a natural, low cost and important intervention and every child must have access to it. MAA Programme targets at pregnant and lactating mothers through trained healthcare providers and skilled community health workers.

As per the reports data, around 13% of children death occurs due to poor breastfeeding. MAA programme will create a suitable eco-system to provide proper info. to mothers, husbands and other family members.

Components of MAA Programme 2018

The important component of Mother’s Absolute Affection Programme in Himachal Pradesh are as follows:-

  • Community awareness generation.
  • Strengthening inter personal communication through ASHA.
  • Skilled support for breastfeeding at delivery points in public health facilities.
  • Monitoring and Award/recognition.

Breastfeeding is helpful in creation of special bond between baby and mother. Mother’s milk also improves behaviour, speech, security and how child relates to other people.

Key Features

  • One of the most important features of the above mentioned scheme is that it will help in eliminating the child mortality rate for children under five years of age.
  • The new drive has been run by the state government with an aim to educate the mothers that breast feeding is the basic right for every child and each child needs to have access to it at an early age.
  • To make the implementation more effective the state government authorities will also offer with right level of training to the pregnant women and lactating mothers.
  • Under the programme the government will also offer with all necessary support and guidance to family members and husband of the pregnant women and lactating mother.
  • The government aims at educating the mothers about the nutritional benefits of mother’s milk for the child and its role in preventing death, poverty and disease.
  • The government also aims that the through the awareness programme the family of the mother will also offer with optimal level of support after counseling from various health centers and systems.

With the implementation of the MAA scheme 2018 the state government aims that over 20 percent of infant death and over 13 percent of death of under five aged child can be prevented thus reducing the child mortality rate. The government will also ensure that various centers including Anganwadi workers, Ayush doctors, Allopathic doctors, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives and family members be a part of the training and support programme.
